Migrating to Teams from Slack, or performing a tenant migration? Moving files into Microsoft 365 to use with Teams? Whether it’s files, chats or configuration and metadata, it’s important to know what is possible and avoid common pitfalls.

In this session, you’ll learn about the key methods you can migrate data into Teams, without the vendor spin – and what’s really possible for tenant migrations or when moving in from other tools like Slack. And you’ll hear practical, usable advice on moving file data and other configuration between tenants or from on-premises file servers. Find the middle ground that works well with SharePoint, but doesn’t annoy your users and make Teams unusable.

Once you want to use Teams also as your cloud PBX you can come into very interesting decision point while talking about the need of the license for your users. In old times almost all people had telephone by default. Nowadays this need can be already diminished by scheduled calls and using meeting platforms or by adhoc native Teams calls even between federated users.

So do all my people need to be enabled for Enterprise Voice? Do they need to be licensed with Phone System? What about receptionist transferring PSTN calls to users? Will that work? How does the Teams phone device is licensed?  What about Auto-attendant and Call Queues? When do I need to assign license to resource account and to users? Do I even need to have Direct Routing or Calling Plan for my use case? What about dialing out from meeting?

Beside answering those quite common questions I will also present real use cases and personas which we have identified during our deployments of Teams Telephony in HeidelbergCement.

July 31st 2021 is a date that is currently looming large (assuming COVID hasn’t moved this darn conference again!), on this date Skype for Business Online services as we know them will stop working. As I’m writing this session synopsis there currently isn’t a lot of information available about what this will actually mean in practice, but is a change that could have huge consequences for a number of organizations.

At the moment there are many different questions that we just can’t answer right now., such as:

What will happen if you are running SfB on-prem but with Hybrid configured?

What if you are using SfB Online but are using On Premises Call Handling to supply dial-tone to your users?

What if you have SBCs deployed running Cloud Connector Edition for voice?

In this session I will endeavour to cover in as much detail as is possible what the different paths forward may be if you are still relying to some degree on Skype for Business Online so that you can gauge your level of risk and cover how you can minimise the impact of its removal.

(If COVID has moved this conference out to September then hopefully the SfB drop-dead date has sailed past like the millennium bug and we’re all still fine)

Perhaps you have been using Teams for a little while now and things seem to have been going okay. You dipped your toes in with online meetings and perhaps a spot or two of collaboration, but wouldn’t it be nice to also get on board with making regular phone calls inside Teams? You could get rid of that old PBX that is starting to groan a little bit in the back corner of the comms room and perhaps it can’t be all that difficult right, your users got used to normal calling in Teams during all this COVID malarkey?

In this session I will cover how you can approach adding Telephony into your Teams deployment. We will look at what the choices and decision points are between Calling Plans and Direct Routing, as well as covering the different varieties of Direct Routing available. We will cover how to approach a voice migration project and what sort of things you need to consider in order to have a successful deployment and happy users…

“Start as you mean to go on” is important advice when dealing with a puppy or a New Application! However, good intentions about how you raise and train your puppy can soon go out of the window when they don’t understand why they are not allowed to do something, and they cry or make sad eyes at you!

It is all too easy to think that “just once won’t hurt” or that you can start training and being firm with your puppy “later,” but by doing this, you are laying the groundwork for a whole host of future problems and its very unfair to your dog as well.

In this session, we will look at the top 10 Rules specifically designed to ensure as the owner of a new Puppy’ Miss teams’, you understand that:

  • Some things are yours; some things are not
  • When people talk to you, you must listen
  • There is a time and a place for barking and making a noise
  • Don’t take without asking
  • Being good gains more rewards than being bad
  • Leads are not toys
  • You can’t always have your own way
  • Making a fuss will not get you your own way
  • The place for doing your business is outside
  • No means no

Microsoft Teams is used more and more as a complete replacement for legacy PBXs especially in small and medium businesses (SMBs). To cope with many incoming PSTN calls Teams provides lightweight call distribution and call flow capabilities which can enable your organization for a better, more structured and more collaborative way of handling calls. Just routing incoming PSTN calls to employees does not gurantee a smooth calling experience for callers and callees. That’s why it is important to design and build smooth call flows with the goals of a good caller and callee experience in mind.
The key learnings of this session are a technical overview on native call flow capabilities in Microsoft Teams Calling, some examples and hints based on Erik’s field experience to create smooth call flows for teams dealing with a medium call volume each day.

UC & Voice Analytics have become increasingly important in the new way we work and collaborate. The ability to analyse SIP channels from a rating and usage perspective, to understand ‘cradle to grave’ call flow, device management, not to mention company call/data reporting compliance and detailed SBC information all lead to an efficient and optimised UC strategy.

  • Is your company embarking on an adoption journey of new digital tools ?
  • Have you started using apps like Microsoft Teams from the Microsoft 365 platform for meetings?
  • And, do you now feel ready, and/or see the need, to take the next step; and move some of the daily work and collaboration onto this new platform?
  • Is your IT/HR/Communication departments ready?

If you can say yes to one or more of these questions, you have an exciting and life changing journey ahead of you. As any experienced traveler knows, those traveling with you are very important part of the journey and planning for the trip equally important. Did you remember your passport?

Similarly, embarking on an implementation-of-a-new-digital-platform-journey, you need good traveling companions. Great traveling companions, such as the IT team, as well as HR and the Communication department are really good, and at least in the beginning, and at certain intervals in the journey it can be a good idea to invite onboard the Security and compliance team as well, and so too the rest of the business. At least let the business know where you are going, so they can join you when they are ready, or you ready to take them onboard.

In this session Merethe will guide you how to prepare your IT team, and other teams and key stakeholders, regardless if they are your own team, belong to another unit in your company, or if you have outsourced the job to an external partner.

Key takeaways:

  • Where are we going?
  • Define
    • Goals, KPIs, strategy and the “WHY?”
    • What your new solutions should replace (something in-something out)
    • Ownership for the solution, support, training, culture building, etc.
    • A roadmap and communicate this
  • Structure the organization for key stakeholders for before, during and after “The journey” by combining Microsoft Learning Pathway, Viva Learn and Viva Topics as well as Teams and other Microsoft 365 apps
  • Execute your plan

In March 2020 no one really knew how the world would change due to the growing pandemic. The impact on all individuals and organisations would be profound. When the call came in that I would be heading up the UK Government’s largest Microsoft Teams deployment project, I knew it was going to be challenging from the start – but one I would relish delivering well.

Join me in this session as I take you on a journey of how my team navigated the challenges (technical roadblocks to the User Experience / Adoption planning and Comms), took lessons as the project evolved and witnessed people’s genuine joy with new capabilities through Teams (for Communications and Collaboration) landed at one of the UK’s largest Gov departments.

Both Microsoft and Zoom are enjoying tremendous growth in the new world of mobility. Within and between organisations there is a challenge of joining these two worlds together. We believe that end user choice should not be a compromise.

In this session we will demonstrate how Microsoft Teams users can connect to a corporate Zoom Phone environment to get the end user experience they need whilst keeping a single unified call management system in-place.

We’ll primarily focus on ‘Teams-enabling Zoom’ in this session and demonstrate how a Teams user can quickly connect to the Zoom Phone backend in a few minutes and be making extension to extension and PSTN calls from within Teams and Zoom.

Many organisations have deeply embedded business process that rely on Call Centers and the workflows driven by these.

The event of Microsoft Teams and the way it has enabled workforces to be scattered far and wide has presented unique challenges to IT and Customer Experience managers who need to maintain the business as usual processes along with catering for remote and nomadic working.

This session discusses the implications of using Teams on top of an existing Call Center to provide the end user experience that’s needed and how to address the nuanced problems this presents.

We will be demonstrating how Microsoft Teams can be effectively used in multi-agent and call queueing environments where these features are driven by existing Call Center systems
